Girls [Water] Polo Wins League
By Spencer Green, Sports Writer

The girls’ water polo team has been tearing up the Ocean League, as they have been busy winning out the end of their season. On Thursday, January 25, the Eagles traveled to Beverly Hills to take on the BH Normans. After four quarters of victory, the Eagles stepped away as the winners at 11-4. Scorers for this game were seniors Coral Kemp with five goals, Caitlin Briney with two, and Rachel Jarvis with one. Scoring for the juniors were Elle Quane with two goals and Jenn Kreutzer with one. Goaltending for the Eagles was Haley Cox, who made eight saves in that game.
Thursday, February 1, the Eagles set up the Plunge for a game against the Culver City High School team. The Eagles were on fire as they beat the Culver City team, 15-6. Scoring for the home team were Kemp with five; Quane with three; Jarvis with two; and seniors Jenna Johnston and Briney, along with juniors Jacque Combs, Carissa DeSalles, and Chelsea Kemp, each with one goal. Goalie Cox had six saves and two assists.
Tuesday, February 6, the Eagles once more prepared their home pool for a match, but this game was more meaningful, as it was the last Eagles home game of the season. Facing off against the Milken team, the Eagles easily destroyed their opponents with a 17-7 win. Scoring for ESHS were Coral and Jarvis with three each; Briney, Combs, and Chelsea with two each; and seniors Ashley Cordobes and Johnston, along with juniors DeSalles, Quane, and Madison Renfro, each with one goal.
Two days after the Milken game, February 8, the Eagles traveled to Santa Monica High School for their last League game. The Eagles won the League championship in style, as they defeated the SAMO team 11-5. Scorers were Coral with five; Quane with three; and Chelsea, Combs and Jarvis, each with single goals. Goalie Cox did an outstanding job, with 10 saves and two assists. This victory placed the Eagles as the League champions, and put them on a CIF path.
The Lady Eagles’ first CIF game took place Friday, February 16, against the team from Orange. After four periods of excitement, the Eagles had defeated their opponents 11-3. This victory showed promise for the girls in CIF. The confidence of the girls is readily apparent in sophomore Cox, as she said, “We are going to win CIF, because we are cool, we have godo team spirit, and we have Garinger as a coach.” Jarvis was equally confident, as she felt that, “We’re going to do as best as we can in CIF, and I’m confident that we’ll be successful in everything that we’ve trained for.”
Good luck to girls water polo!
